Ladakh India

Of Mountains and Men PILGRIMAGE

The wind carries memories from far away lands, waters and realms that remind us of the need for movement. The need for being moved within. There are few places on our beautiful planet that inspire awe and wonder and one such place is the Himalayas. A journey to this part of our beautiful planet is sure to touch you. We have been wandering these regions for decades and so far we haven’t met anyone who hasn’t been moved deeply by these mystical mountains.

The Ladakh journey is an inner movement of connection and healing. It is our intention to find a deep resonance in the silence that resides in the high mountains, along-with the pace that nature adopts here, slow.

For Men Called to the High Places: A Journey of Silence, Spirit & Strength

This journey is for men who feel a quiet, persistent call toward something deeper.

It is for those who sense that life is more than achievement and accumulation – that there is a sacred fire within them that has not yet been fully met.

This is not a sightseeing tour. It is a pilgrimage into silence, altitude, ancient wisdom and inner terrain.

You may be a leader, a father, a seeker, a warrior in your own life. You may carry great responsibility. You may feel tired of noise, performance and constant movement. You may be standing at a threshold in your life and feel drawn toward clarity, healing, initiation or renewal.

Confluence of Indus and Zanskar rivers in Ladakh, India; brown and green waters meet, mountains in background, prayer flags in foreground.

This journey will call you into:

  • Stillness in high Himalayan monasteries
  • Prayer and meditation in mountaintop stupas and sacred caves where great masters awakened
  • Brotherhood through shared challenge and vulnerability
  • Simplicity, earth and sky through village life and homestays
  • Raw wilderness through mountain hikes and high-altitude landscapes

You do not need to be Buddhist.
You do not need to be religious.

But you must be willing.

Willing to slow down.
Willing to listen.
Willing to be stretched by altitude, silence and truth.
Willing to sit in circle with other men who are also seeking something real.

This pilgrimage is for men who feel the mountains calling them – not as tourists, but as initiates.

If you feel a quiet “yes” stirring inside you as you read this, you are likely meant to come.

Trip FAQ

  • What is the weather like?

Temperatures on the trip will vary from 10-30 degrees and could dip to a minimum of 5 to 10 degrees Celsius in higher altitudes. The sun is sharp and feels hotter than the temperatures. However, its best to be prepared for lower temperatures due to wind chill or the weather turning bad.  The days are warm and pleasant and the nights are usually cool/pleasant. You should be ready for inclement weather in any case as storms build up rather quickly at high altitudes.

  • What should I bring?

Keep it light – although what you carry with you is a very personal decision. The list below covers all essentials that you must carry.

    CHECKLIST FOR ESSENTIAL PERSONAL ITEMS:

    1. Wind proof jacket, ideally woolen or down feather.
    2. Hiking/trekking shoes; spare sandals
    3. Water Bottle
    4. Flash Light and spare batteries - important
    5. Sun Shade/Hat with Brim/Scarf/woolen hat/gloves (some of it can be bought in Leh)
    6. Sunglasses
    7. Sunscreen/Sun block
    8. Vaseline/Lip Salve
    9. Insect Repellent (if you are prone to bites)
    10. Rucksack/duffel bag to carry your baggage
    11. Small daypack to carry camera, packed lunch, water bottle and wind/rain jacket.
    12. Long trousers / long sleeved shirts / T-shirts etc.

Note:  What you are expected to carry during the day with you is a day pack - to carry things that you will need throughout the day, such as your camera, extra batteries, water bottle, packed lunch, sweets, rehydration powders, waterproofs, toilet paper, a fleece or a jumper. It may be also advisable to carry a small flashlight in your daypack, just in case.

  • What should I bring for shoes?

Good footwear is very important – most trails in the Indian Himalayas are pretty rough and steep so a good pair of shoes is important.  Socks, both for walking and a pair of warm ones for keeping feet warm when indoors is a good bet. Although we are not walking too much, there are a couple of days of short day hikes/walks. The longest walk would be in Stok and the trail would need good shoes.

  • What is the Altitude?

Altitude considerations: Travel to any part of  the Indian Himalayas deserves a little more respect than many other high altitude destinations because most of the regions lie over 3200 meters (10500 ft). People in good health should not get alarmed by this but if you have a medical condition such as high blood pressure, heart or lung disease, you must take the advice of a doctor who has experience with the effects of altitude. Any kind of exercise which gets you fitter before this trip is advisable, as it will enable you to enjoy the region more.

  • Should I bring any medications?

It will help for you all to carry some easy to access medicine on the trip, for headaches, diarrhea, constipation, and some re-hydration powders like Electral etc. Acetazolamyde/Diamox is also an option for those who wish to play it safe to enable prior acclimatization. Kindly consult your physicians before taking these medicines. It's also a good idea to have a roll of toilet paper accessible should you need to go in the open spaces.

  • What about money?

Money exchange: Money exchange options are easily available all over Leh town.

  • Is there WiFi?

Wifi is available in hotels and in the homestay, except in Pangong

  • Who do I get there?

Travel to Leh from Delhi: Flights from Delhi to Leh are available and most of them depart in the morning with the last ones flying around noon time. Popular airlines are Indigo and Air India

For the more adventurous there is a long and challenging road trip. Delhi - Manali - Lahaul (Jispa) - leh. It will take a minimum of 3 days for this journey. While it is long and tiring it is also very rewarding. The logistics for the same can also be organized separately for those willing to come via road.

Note: air travel would cost much less and the road travel would cost lot more.

Ladakh Testimonial

"Ladakh is the place where I have experienced by far the most potent spiritual transformation. The land and the monasteries transmit an astonishing degree of peace, clarity, and wisdom. The people of Ladakh are a high example of how to live in harmony with nature, and their hospitality is extraordinary. Since steeping in the otherworldly beauty, trekking, and meditating in many sacred places during the pilgrimage, my life, vocation, and next steps have all become absolutely clear. Ladakh has stayed with me in my heart, and I intend to return many times."
