A Compelling Voice
for a Divided & Searching World
What does it take to move unity from an inspiring idea into a lived human experience?
Ben Bowler has spent much of his adult life exploring that question—not from the sidelines, but through direct immersion in cultures, communities, and wisdom traditions around the world. His work has taken him from migrant communities along the Thai–Myanmar border to Buddhist monasteries, Sufi circles, sacred sites, international peace gatherings, and interspiritual conversations spanning continents.
Through World Weavers, Ben has pioneered immersive spiritual travel designed to bring people inside the living heart of a tradition rather than leaving them on the outside as observers. Through UNITY EARTH, he has helped convene a worldwide network of spiritual leaders, peacebuilders, artists, activists, and organizations committed to accelerating unity and peace on Earth.
Ben speaks with the perspective of someone who has built organizations, led international teams, crossed cultural and religious boundaries, and witnessed the transformative power of encounter firsthand. His message is visionary, but it is grounded in experience: unity is not sameness, peace is not passivity, and spiritual transformation reaches its fullest expression when it changes how we meet and act in the world.
Why Ben Makes a Distinctive Podcast Guest
Ben is equally comfortable telling a vivid story from the road, examining the evolution of religion and spirituality, or exploring how people and organizations can turn shared values into coordinated action.
- He has lived the questions. Ben’s insights come from years spent creating and participating in immersive journeys across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa—not only studying spiritual traditions from a distance.
- He bridges worlds that rarely meet. His work connects faith and entrepreneurship, contemplation and action, ancient wisdom and modern movement-building, personal awakening and collective change.
- He brings a global perspective. Ben has worked with religious leaders, Indigenous elders, peacebuilders, social entrepreneurs, artists, philanthropists, and grassroots organizations across diverse cultures.
- He combines vision with execution. Alongside his peace and interspiritual work, Ben has built and led successful commercial teams. He understands how ideas become organizations, communities, experiences, and movements.
- He creates generous conversations. Ben is a practiced interviewer and facilitator who can engage complex spiritual and cultural questions without flattening difference or retreating into abstraction.
From Adventure to a Life’s Work
Crossing the Border
In 2006, Ben and his wife, Jildou, left Australia for Thailand to volunteer along the Thai–Myanmar border. The experience brought them into relationship with displaced and migrant communities and reshaped the direction of Ben’s life.
In 2008, they co-founded Blood Foundation, a small, locally engaged NGO supporting education, livelihood opportunities, interfaith initiatives, and community development among migrant and stateless communities. The work grounded Ben’s understanding of peacebuilding in something more demanding than ideals: trust, proximity, long-term relationships, and local empowerment.
Entering the Living Heart of Tradition
In 2009, Ben launched Monk for a Month, an immersive program that gave participants an opportunity to encounter Thai Buddhist monastic life from within. In 2010, he created Muslim for a Month in Turkey, inviting guests into an experiential encounter with Turkish Islam and Sufism under the inclusive spiritual legacy of Mevlana Rumi.
These early programs grew into World Weavers—an international spiritual travel and cultural immersion organization creating “adventures of the spirit” across some of the world’s great wisdom traditions. Its journeys have reached communities and sacred landscapes in Thailand, India, Nepal, Cambodia, Ethiopia, the Holy Land, Japan, and beyond.
World Weavers grew from a conviction that travel can be more than consumption and spirituality more than private self-improvement. At its best, a journey can become a practice of humility: a way to cross boundaries, listen deeply, form relationships, and return home changed.
From Immersion to Convergence
In 2012, Ben convened the first U DAY Festival in Chiang Mai, bringing spiritual leaders from different traditions together with popular musicians and artists. The gathering helped set in motion a larger vision: not merely interfaith dialogue, but a living global culture of unity that honors profound difference while strengthening the bonds of one human family.
In 2015, Ben and collaborators launched 1GOD.com at the Parliament of the World’s Religions. Its purpose was to “unite the tribes”—cultivating spiritual unity without erasing the rich diversity of humanity’s religious and philosophical traditions.
Those relationships and experiments helped give rise to UNITY EARTH. Formally launched in 2016, UNITY EARTH has developed into a global network working at the intersection of spirituality, science, technology, transformative practice, and the arts. As Executive Director, Ben has helped steward international gatherings, media programs, peace initiatives, and collaborations designed to amplify a shared story of human unity.
Its initiatives have included the Road to 2020, global Convergences, U DAY Ethiopia, Holy Land Living Water, World UNITY Week, Peace Week, Peace Week Japan, and partnerships with peace-aligned leaders and organizations around the world.
Restoration, Relationship, and Action
Across Ben’s work, one pattern keeps returning. People first need experiences that restore the spirit and loosen the grip of separation. They then need genuine relationships across boundaries. From those relationships, collaboration and action can grow.
This is the deeper thread connecting a monastery stay, an interfaith pilgrimage, a global online gathering, and a convergence of change-makers. The goal is not spiritual tourism as escape. It is encounter that changes how people understand one another—and what they are willing to build together.
